Frequently asked questions.
What age can you diagnose from?
NICE does not specify a minimum age for assessing autism. Instead, the emphasis is on recognising signs and symptoms and considering referral for assessment when there are concerns, regardless of the child’s age. We would recommend arranging a free consultation with one of our qualified professionals in order for them to assess if a diagnosis is appropriate for the individual.
How quick is the assessment completed?
Our assessments are generally completed over 2 to 3 appointments in order to complete a holistic assessment in line with NICE guidance. A report is then completed within 2 weeks of the assessment. We aim to complete a referral from start to finish within 3 months.
What is the process?
Your initial assessment is the ADOS-2 which is completed face to face at our clinic space, this takes around 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Following this you will be booked in for a DISCO assessment, this can be completed over the phone, over teams or face to face and is completed with a parent or carer. On completion of these two assessments your assigned clinician will complete your clinical report and send it to you for checking. Once you are happy with the report it will be sent to you and your GP in order to update your medical records.

Can it be done remotely?
Yes your DISCO assessment can be done via a video call or phone call but, as per best practice, your ADOS-2 assessment must be completed face to face. Personalised packages for the ADOS-2 assessors to travel to you can be arranged via our free consultations.
